In 1980, the current president/owner of 5 Star Pizza Express Elie Morin graduated from the Hotel Institute of Montreal. He did his internship at a prestigious restaurant and was paid a 100$ cash prize for a pizza recipe that won five stars at a food tasting contest.
He continued to work in large restaurants whose specialties were steaks and seafood, to finally realize that customers prefer pizza to any other dish.
In 1982, he opened his own restaurant named “5 Stars” which reflects the prize for his pizza recipe.

More than 20 years after receiving his first 100$ prize, Elie continues to make pizza but additionally offers his products in a franchise format.
